Enjoy the New Rollins Edwards Community Center

by Susan Gardner

We all know Summerville works hard to make this a great place to live.  Another gem that was recently added to what the town offers is the Rollins Edwards Community CenterThe Town of Summerville, with a vision, purchased the old SC National Guard Armory in 2014.  It was then renovated and recently reopened as a Community Center.

The Facility

This past week I attended a Summerville DREAM meeting at the Community Center and got to take the grand tour.  First, let me say they did a great job renovating the outside to be warm and inviting.  Turning a very stark old Armory into a welcoming Community Center took a lot of creativity. Upon walking in, friendly staff is quick to welcome you and introduce you to the new facility.  Past the front desk, you immediately see the full-size gymnasium with basketball hoops and pickleball nets.  (If you haven't heard of pickleball yet, it's a cross between badminton and tennis, is played with a whiffle ball and is the newest craze for all ages!)   The Center also features three multipurpose rooms, a fitness room, a wellness center, and a catering kitchen.  It's a beautiful facility.

Who Can Use the Community Center

It wasn't hard to imagine some competitive pickleball going on or a good basketball pick up game.  The residents of the Town of Summerville can get a membership for a reduced fee but the Community Center is available to anyone who wants to join.  They're open 6 days a week with some days until 9 pm.

For more information on what they offer, or to rent it out for meetings or private events, check it out here.   And here's a link to their scheduled activities.

Many thanks to the Town of Summerville for continuing to provide us with opportunities to get out, meet our neighbors and have some fun!

Friendly front desk staff.

Have a great week!
