The History of Our Theatre - Flowertown Players
The Flowertown Players is a community theater group based in Summerville, South Carolina. It was founded in 1976 by a group of theater enthusiasts who wanted to bring quality live theater to the Summerville area.
The First Production
The group's first production was "The Fantasticks," which was performed in the garden of a local home. Over the years, the Flowertown Players have performed in various locations throughout Summerville, including schools, community centers, and a converted cotton gin.
The Theatres Home Building
In 1985, the group moved into a permanent home at the James F. Dean Community Theatre, which was named in honor of a founding member of the Flowertown Players. The theater was built with the help of donations and volunteers, and it has since become a cultural landmark in Summerville. (And of course we're partial since our office is located right next door!)
Since its founding, the Flowertown Players have produced over 300 plays, musicals, and other theatrical productions. The group is known for its commitment to quality and professionalism, as well as its dedication to the community.
In addition to its regular season of productions, the Flowertown Players also offer classes and workshops for aspiring actors and directors, as well as outreach programs for local schools and community groups.
The Flowertown Players have become an integral part of the Summerville community, and their productions are eagerly anticipated by theater-goers throughout the Lowcountry. If you want to see what they're up too, check out their website!
