7 Tips for Improving Curb Appeal

by Susan Gardner

Like the cover of a book, the exterior of your home is the first opportunity you have to pique a buyer’s interest. These are a few simple and inexpensive ways to help your home make a better first impression with easy curb appeal upgrades.

Improving Curb Appeal Tips

Get To Grooming

A well-groomed yard shows buyers the home is taken care of. Mowing the grass, raking off leaves, and pulling weeds will give your home a manicured look. Also, keep it watered to prevent any brown spots.

Accentuate The Positive

If you don’t have a flower garden already, you can create the same effect by adding a pop of color in planters or window boxes. Accentuate focal points such as windows and entryways. If you don’t have room for a standing planter, try a hanging basket. One beautiful arrangement can significantly improve the appeal.

Color Me Pretty

Give your entry a facelift with a fresh coat of paint on the front door. Don’t be afraid of a bold color that will enhance the other colors of your home’s exterior. Compare swatches to make sure you choose the right shade.

All Things Bright And Beautiful

Pressure wash any outdoor surfaces (siding, porch, sidewalk, driveway, etc.) to remove cobwebs, dirt, and grime. This will brighten the appearance and give that “like new” feel. Don’t forget to clean out the gutters while you’re at it!

Let There Be Light

Make sure all exterior lights are in working order and replace all outdoor lightbulbs. There’s nothing inviting about a dark entryway. Wash all windows (inside and out) to let the sunshine in and offer the best views.

Distinctive Details

Paint or replace the street numbers on your home to make them more visible. Choose a more modern look with a font that aligns with the architecture, but is still distinctive enough to catch the eye of buyers.

Warmest Welcome

Replace a worn out welcome mat to give a lovely invitation to buyers as they tour your home.
