It’s January, a brand new year, thankfully and it’s time to get out and do some things around town.  I’ve compiled a shortlist of some of the things going on in Summerville that can be Covid safe.  Let me know if you go and how you enjoyed the event!!

Summerville Skates – will be open through January 16th

Summerville Skates is a temporary ice rink that gives the community and guests the opportunity to experience something special throughout the winter holiday season. Qigong is a series of simple exercises that help us cultivate positive energy in our bodies. This class will facilitate the relaxation response and help bring awareness to our present lives. In this class, you will learn practical exercises for everyday use to increase your relaxation, boost immunity and harness the healing energy of the water element.

 

Charleston Restaurant Week – January 7th – 17th

Charleston Restaurant Week is set for January 7-17, 2021! This culinary dream, executed by Explore Charleston, is one of the most highly anticipated culinary events in the Charleston area. It is an opportunity to enjoy the world-renowned cuisine of the Lowcountry as participating restaurants offer prix fixe lunch and dinner menus. Painting with a Twist

Painting with a Twist – January 12th 6PM – 8PM

Titled – A New Day

Cost: $37-$45 per person

Join Instructor, Daniela Arenas, for step-by-step instructions to paint this particular artwork (with your own twist). Or check out the calendar to choose something that inspires the artist in you! This business has beer and wine available for purchase. Must be 14+ to paint, and 21+ to drink.

 

Food Truck Friday at the Chamber and Visitor Center – January 15th 11AM – 1PM

Location: The Chamber and Visitors Center

Cost: Free and open to the public

Mac Daddy will be serving delicious mac with fun toppings and sides!  This event is held monthly on the third Friday of the month in the Chamber’s gravel parking lot next to the sweet tea mural.

Stay after for Tim Talks in the Chamber Boardroom.  Tim Lowry, a local storyteller and raconteur, travels from coast to coast telling tales from his hometown of Summerville, SC. Tim will share his stories with the hometown crowd. He will demonstrate the power of storytelling through personal narratives, historical tales, folklore, legends, and myths– all drawn from everyday life in the Birthplace of Sweet Tea.

Food trucks will be available for lunch purchases starting at 11:00 am. Grab a bite or bring your own brown bag. Storytelling begins at noon.

Firefly Distillery presents the Low Country Food Truck Festival – January 16th 12pm – 5pm

Location: 4201 Spruill Avenue North Charleston, SC 29405
Cost: Entry to the event is free

Come on out for Firefly’s first food truck festival. Free to attend, the outdoor event will feature fifteen local food trucks from savory to sweet and every cuisine in between at the new location in Park Circle.

“Food trucks are a part of the experience here at the distillery and each of these trucks bring a new flavor to enjoy,” says Scott Newitt, co-founder of Firefly Distillery. “It’s more important now than ever to support local so we’re excited to be hosting this festival in our four-acre field this year.”

In full festival spirit, onsite music will feature DJ Natty Heavy spinning tunes throughout the afternoon. Attendees can spread out with the picnic tables on our Front Porch and are encouraged to bring chairs, pop-up tables, blankets or lawn games to enjoy the event on our The Field.

Inside the distillery, tastings will happen every 30 minutes beginning at noon for a look inside the distillation process and samples of Firefly Spirits. While all ages are welcome at the event, the distillery Tasting Room is restricted to ages 21 and up.

 

Watercolor for KIDS! Ages 8+

Cost: $20

Children ages 8+ can join instructor Caleb Quire for a kids watercolor class. Students will learn basic techniques, make a plan, sketch on paper, and begin their painting. They will work on composition, apply the base layer, and learn how to control accidents. Students will create tone and color in their piece, learn how to add depth and shadow, and finish final touch ups…. In this smaller class size (just 6 students), kids will be able to receive more individualized attention to hone their skills and create a finished masterpiece they can be proud of. Materials included.

Commit to be Fit

COMMIT TO BE FIT IN 2021 – January 23 9:30AM – 2PM

Location: Nexton

Come out for a variety of activities throughout Nexton all morning followed by
