Christmas is a wonderful time, and it becomes almost Norman Rockwell-like here in Summerville. There is plenty to do around town for date nights and family outings.
We started the season with the Christmas Tree Lighting and Live Window Display. Many people came out to celebrate. The streets closed and people enjoyed being together. The food trucks offered yummy food, local businesses stayed open, bands played, and merchants had some great live window displays!
Nexton had an event, Deck the Halls – A Tree Lighting and Holiday Fun, celebrating decorating the square and tree lighting. Live music and a visit from Santa set the festive spirit. The shops were open for everyone to do a little Christmas shopping as well. With so many Nexton restaurants now open, I’m sure people made a night of it starting their Christmas season.
The Summerville Christmas Parade was also a big hit. Hundreds of people lined Main Street last Sunday afternoon to hear the marching bands, watch the dancers and see the floats. Owners decorated their vintage and unique vehicles for the holidays. The parade is a holiday tradition for many generations in Summerville.
Summerville’s Holiday Farmers Market – December 14th. It’s the last Farmers Market of the season. Here’s the link for info – it’ll be a great place to get your last-minute shopping done.
Flowertown Players showing the comedy, A Doublewide Texas Christmas – various dates. Laugh your way into the Christmas spirit with this story about a small town and their Christmas stress. Get tickets here.
Christmas on the Square by the Junior Service League – December 14th – 28th. Civic Groups, Schools, Businesses, and Individuals will create Christmas tree displays throughout the square. Come check out the creativity displayed in the heart of Summerville. Remember to vote for your favorite tree!
Summerville Skates – ongoing until January 11th. Summerville Skates is a temporary ice rink in downtown Summerville that offers a special opportunity for a memorable Christmas experience.
Decembers Third Thursday – December 19th. On the square, there will be live music, shops and restaurants open late, and we’ll be there as Buddy the Elf and his crush Jovie. Come out for some great photo ops.
There are many more events around town and I’ve only hit some highlights. Remember to take the time to actually enjoy this time of year and not get caught up in all the busyness and unrealistic expectations. Enjoy your family and friends. And don’t forget to do something nice for someone who may need a little extra help this season. Merry Christmas!!
