Are you a local gamer? Or maybe you’re a parent or grandparent looking for new ways to connect with your kiddos? I stumbled upon a new place in Summerville that holds a little spark of magic, which is saying a lot for someone who has never been a gamer!
Palmetto Gaming is proud to be Summerville’s only locally owned and operated independent video game store. They are located on Short Central, in the historic downtown district. Worried about parking? Don’t sweat it! Summerville’s free parking garage is just steps away from the store.
I met the owners, Chris and Bryant recently. Bryant is the face you are most likely to see when you visit. I enjoyed talking with them both and their love and knowledge of gaming are evident. What stood out, even more, is their love for Summerville and connecting with the community here. Their vision for the store goes way beyond just selling video games and game systems. They are creating a place for a gaming community to develop.
One of the common misconceptions is that only kids and teens are gamers. On the contrary, we now have a thriving community of adult gamers who grew up playing some of the “retro” games this store carries. Talking through that stigma with the owners made me reminisce about when my boys were still at home. Gaming was probably one of their favorite things to do besides play soccer. They seemed to love the competition, uncovering the secrets of the game, and celebrating victories. My boys are all grown up, but they are definitely still gamers!
They have the latest and greatest things but also carry the tried and true systems and games that everybody loves. You can find all the generations of Nintendos, Play Stations, Wii’s and Xboxes and some I didn’t even recognize. Their pricing may surprise you. They claim that their prices won’t be beaten and you will always get more for your money at Palmetto Gaming than you will with the competition. If you have systems or games you no longer play, you can trade them in for credit. Because so many people trade there, Palmetto Gaming is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for something specific. Chances are they’ll have it. They have many walls and shelves filled with games for all the systems they sell. Everything is clean, organized, and easy to find.
Experienced gamers will enjoy the large selection of items to trade and buy, along with meeting people with common interests. If you’re not a serious gamer, but want to try it out, Palmetto Gaming provides this opportunity. Bryant has a wealth of knowledge about the systems and games, so he can really guide you in the right direction. Not sure what you want to buy? They have a place set up where you can try out any game or system you want before you buy it. If you have kids or grandkids, it’s a great place to take them. In addition to the gaming station where you can try some games, they have claw machine games you can play to win prizes. One game you play until you win, and in another, you have the opportunity to win a Nintendo Gamecube! Check out their Facebook page here.
They recently hosted an event for all ages called “Gaming with Superheroes”. This would be so much fun for kids too!
If you’re looking for POPS, they have them! If you don’t know what they are, and I didn’t, they are collectible figurines of all the popular characters. They have Star Wars, Harry Potter, Huey, Dewey and Louie, and many more. They make great gifts or stocking stuffers.
I’m excited about Palmetto Gaming for all they bring to Summerville and want to thank Chris and Bryant for their vision, dedication and love of Summerville. Wishing you the best as word gets out! If you’re looking for other things to do in town, check out a suggestion here.
