Summerville’s Timrod Library carries on the decades-old tradition offering a delicious southern luncheon, homemade casseroles, baked goods, prize drawings and lots of books for all ages. Added attractions include children’s games and activities, Timeless Treasures, and sweetgrass basket sales. New this year, “Summerville Bugs in a Rug” will raffle off a beautiful hooked rug. Come and enjoy an old-fashioned fall festival held at a National Register of Historic Places site dating back to 1915. All proceeds benefit the operation of the Timrod Library and the preservation of its historic building.
Gather the family and bring your blankets and chairs to watch Mary Poppins Returns. There will be food trucks and other vendors on site offering delicious options for dinner and snacks. An assortment of tropicals, annuals, perennials, herbs, and citrus trees will be available for sale. Fall is the best time to plant fruit trees and shrubs! Knowledgeable staff will be there to help you make the best choice for your home or garden Admission to market/vendors and plant sale is free to the public. The Dorchester County Veterans Affairs Office cordially invites the general public to the Annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony in front of the Dorchester County Human Services Building (Main St. Entrance), located at 500 N. Main Street, Summerville.
Magnolia Plantation & Gardens has partnered with the world-famous, Zigong Lantern Group from Zigong, China to perform a massive garden installation of LED light exhibits, for Chinese Lantern Festival 2019, called Lights of Magnolia. The Charleston Chinese Lantern Festival is the very first in Charleston, SC history.
Summerville Parks and Recreation Department and the trained experts at Olfus Tai Chi will teach how to strengthen the mind and body through the art of Tai Chi. Tai Chi is a system of exercise that flows from one movement to another and allows the body and mind to strengthen in a gentle and purposeful way. It is the perfect activity for people of all skill levels and ages. Pre-registration is not required, just join us the morning of with an open mind at the Hutchinson Square Bandstand.
Adding to the charm of our southern town, on most Third Thursdays, Hutchinson Square becomes an entertainment venue, with live local musicians and vendor booths. For this special monthly event, “Little Main” adjacent to Hutchinson Square becomes a small street festival and often a classic car show. The pedestrian walkway on Short Central features additional shopping, art displays, and entertainment.

On November 22nd, Hutchinson Square will welcome Sideshow Americans, a four-piece Americana Rock ‘n Roll band from Johns Island. Hear songs from Sideshow Americans’ debut EP Streetlights, an album steeped in Southeastern string band tradition, delivered in four-part harmony. Also available are food trucks Burgers ‘N Freys, LLC, Rolled Quesadillas, Kona Ice of Summerville. Of course, Hutchinson Square is flanked by a number of fantastic locally owned Summerville gems, like Homegrown Brewhouse, Accent on Wine, and Montreux Bar and Grill, so you’ll have lots of options and places to explore.
